Normac BT Series 2-inch IPS Steel Pipe Compression End Coupling fitting, Heavy-Duty Threadless Repair/Joiner with Dual Hex End Nuts, Field-Installable for Water/Gas/Industrial Piping
Condition: New Old Stock, as pictured—solid body with visible surface oxidation from storage/use; threads/hexes intact.
This is a Normac BT compression end coupling sized for 2″ IPS steel pipe. BT-series couplings are the rugged, threadless way to join or repair steel lines in tight spaces—no threading dies, welding, or hot work needed. Each end uses a compression nut and sealing/follower set to grip the pipe OD and make a pressure-tight joint. Normac (Geneva, Illinois) couplings were widely used by mechanical, municipal, industrial, and HVAC contractors for quick permanent repairs on black iron, galvanized, and process lines.
Body casting typically reads “NORMAC 2” GENEVA, ILL.”
Features
-
2″ IPS compression coupling — joins two plain-end steel pipes without threading or welding
-
Dual heavy hex end nuts — even compression for a reliable seal
-
All-metal body — cast/malleable iron housing built for shop/field abuse
-
Service-friendly — can be installed with basic hand wrenches; ideal for emergency repairs
-
Threadless — avoids chasing damaged or painted threads on existing pipe
Gaskets/pressure class: Vintage Normac BTs typically used nitrile (Buna-N) or neoprene seals with water/oil/air service ratings common to compression couplings.
Applications / Spheres of Use
-
Mechanical/HVAC piping: hydronic supply/return, condenser water, low-pressure steam returns*
-
General plumbing / industrial: water, air, light oils, non-potable service lines
-
Maintenance & repair: patch in new section, couple two cut ends, or bypass damaged threads
-
Temporary tie-ins during equipment change-outs
*Always confirm fluid compatibility, temperature, and pressure with the seal material you install.
Basic Size & Fit (typical for 2″ IPS compression couplings)
-
Pipe size: 2″ IPS steel (OD ≈ 2.375″)
-
Ends: Compression nut + gasket/follower per side
-
Tools: Large adjustable or open-end wrenches
-
Install: Clean/deburr pipe, slide nut & gasket on, insert pipe fully, tighten evenly to spec, pressure test
Cross-Referenced / Similar Products
-
Dresser Style 38/40 2″ compression couplings (steel pipe repair)
-
Smith-Blair 411 steel compression couplings
-
Ford Meter Box GRIP/Style FC couplings (steel/iron pipe)
-

Comparable Items You Might List Together
-
Other Normac BT couplings in ½”, ¾”, 1″, 1¼”, 1½”, and 2″ sizes
-

-
Dresser nuts & gasket kits for 2″ IPS
In Larger Systems / Assemblies
Common in boiler rooms, chiller plants, compressor rooms, and process skids where quick, cold-work repairs are preferred. For long-term reliability:
-
Use new gasket kits matched to media/temperature
-
Torque nuts evenly and re-check after pressurization
-
Follow facility standards for hydrostatic or air testing
